I just found this on someone's blog and i do feel happy about white waters and 30days being in the list but i dont understand the need for Beyonce again since it was there last year and also Princess Tyra. They do have some credibility issues still. Africa Movie Academy Awards’ nominees take a bow in JosiesThu, 20 Mar 2008The nominees of the 2008 Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) were announced to a large gathering of African film industry representatives at a glitzy evening function at Moyo in Johannesburg on Wednesday 19 March. The African Movie Academy Awards, which take place in Bayelsa State, Nigeria on 26 April 2008, were created to celebrate excellence in African film as well as set up supportive structures and networking opportunities for African filmmakers. In the four years of AMAA's existence, the Awards have recognised filmmakers, actors, directors, producers, make-up artists and other film industry role players from around the African continent. "When we first began AMAA, many regarded it as a Nigerian awards ceremony," said Peace Anyiam-Fiberesima, co-founder and executive producer of the AMAA's. "In the past three years, we've managed to increase entries from more African countries. This year's entries were also quite encouraging in that respect – we are clearly on a growth spurt! However, there is still a long way to go – considering that we have more than 50 African nations. We're not putting out nearly enough movies – we're doing more about the politics of film rather than filmmaking, and it's important for Africa to look at the financial rewards for filmmaking as there is no proper distribution process across the continent."Indeed the range and subject matter of the nominated films reflect the African experience in all its glory, pain and humour - collectively, the nominated movies are a real representation of the African story – submissions from Uganda, Ghana, Cameroon, Nigeria, Senegal, Kenya, Sudan, Ethiopia, as well as films from the African diaspora such as Brazil and the United States all reflected the multiplicity of the African experience."South Africa's strongest showings in 2008 was in the documentary section, a credit to the strong tradition of documentary filmmaking in South Africa.
The 2008 AMMA nominees are:BEST INDIGENOUS FILM:Iranse Aje, Ipa, Hafsat ,Onitemi ,Tabou

what in heavens name is Jackie Apea's name doing in that list. As far as am concerned she cant act jack. She won the best supporting actress last year (this same award) for her dumb performance in Beyonce when Ireti Doyle(sitanda) should have won it. This set get k-leg o. she just shouldnt be in the list.
BEST LEAD ACTOR: VAN VICKER - RETURN OF BEYONCE/PRINCESS TYRA,KANAYO KANAYO - ACROSS THE NIGER,NKEM OWOH - STRONGER THAN PAIN,SAINT OBI- CHECK POINT,OC UKEJE - WHITE WATER,KOFI BUCKNOR- RUN BABY RUN.
van vicker is promising but best actor nomination, hell no. I just think they want to balance the whole African thing so those ghanian actors would get a chance even if they don't deserve it. I wont be surprised if he wins.

Since Izu Ojukwu won last year, it would be fair to let someone else win. Am hoping Mildred Okwo takes it.
BEST COSTUMES:PRINCESS TYRA,RIVALS,MIRROR OF BEAUTY,30 days,
The Rivals for this one. The costumes were to die for.
BEST SOUND:WHITE WATER, NEWJERUSALEM,MISSION TO NO WHERE,30 DAYS,MIRROR OF BEAUTY,CASH MONEY,DIVIZIONS.
Might be 30days as those who have seen it says the sound is in check, i mean even all the press reviews i read applauded the sound but then i havent seen white waters.

May the best man win but the most deserved should win not cos they want to balance the african thing, if a nigerian actor is better than a ghanian then let the naija win, period!

Death, where is thy sting?
What can i say,its a great loss? Oh why? Why did it happen?....Could go on and on but then the deed has already been done. Woke up on Tuesday morning to find out that i had lost a close friend who lives in my neighborhood. The burial is tomorrow and so i would see his body at the cemetery first. I feel pained cos his case what a serious one, he was turning into an emotional wreck and he started drinking heavy....i wish i had helped, i really wanted to, he needed therapy and everyone though i was over dramatic..anyways i would be back after the burial....am speechless and sad.

Whats up with 30 days?

This is one movie i am so much looking forward to seeing alongside white waters the amstel malta box office movie. I dont know whats delaying but i do know its not intentional, but i do hope the movie is out before the end of this year. I remember i had this same pain waiting for Keeping faith to come out then, just hope its a co-incidence.

Which way nollywood?
As the case may be there are certain things that just come as annoying and this is oe of the issues i intend addressing here. I caught the advert of soon to e realised homvie the other day and it was titled "Beyonce and Rihanna"...i was shocked and didnt know nollywood had degenerated to this extent. It stars Omotola, Nadia Buari , Jim Iyke and Uche Jombo. I am a omotola fan but i must confess i am more than disappointed at this. Is it that bad and to think the story line is gona be something related to the rumoured Beyonce, Rihanna, Jay Z saga. I am ashamed for the producers and they make me sick. There is no excuse for this and this is supposed to be the era of structuring the unstructured, are there no guilds, are there no laws? This is sad so sad and there was this part in the advert Nadia told Omotola "Lets settle this once and for all, if you think you are better than me lets enter for the singing contest, if you win, i'll leave jay for you". Rubbish!
I have a feeling the movie would sell, not even with the heat it has generated already ad i ask myself does that mean proffesionalism has gone with the wind and mediocrity would be the order of the day, what next should we expect? Ciara and Bow wow, whitney and bobby brown? What next?

I am legend

I finally saw this movie after so much anticipation and yes i must admit i was on my seat till the end but didnt like the ending, ending spoilt it for me and i had a few questions.
Here is the brief synopsis: Robert Neville (Will Smith) is a brilliant scientist, but even he could not contain the terrible virus that was unstoppable, incurable...and manmade. Somehow immune, Neville is now the last human survivor in what is left of New York City...and maybe the world. But he is not alone. He is surrounded by "the Infected"--victims of the plague who have mutated into carnivorous beings who can only exist in the dark and who will devour or infect anyone or anything in their path. For three years, Neville has spent his days scavenging for food and supplies and faithfully sending out radio messages, desperate to find any other survivors who might be out there. All the while, the Infected lurk in the shadows, watching Neville's every move, waiting for him to make a fatal mistake. Perhaps mankind's last, best hope, Neville is driven by only one remaining mission: to find a way to reverse the effects of the virus using his own immune blood. But his blood is also what The Infected hunt, and Neville knows he is outnumbered and quickly running out of time.
Now to my questions...
1) Did anyone else think it was a strange how he "happened" to be the scientist who could help cure the virus and he and his dog were immune?
2) He must have been a scientist AND an engineer to set up that rather sophisticated lab in his house.
3) If the zombies die from bullets and falling, why doesn't repeatedly smashing one's head against glass hurt or kill them?
4)Were the zombies smart or dumb??? They did dumb things like expose themselves to light, and bang their heads against glass, but they are smart enough to set that trap for him?
5) Why did he kill his dog instead of trying to save him?? I thought he found a cure that worked on animals but not HUMANS?
6) How did that tiny little lady fight off the zombies and then pull huge Will Smith out of the wreckage?
7) Shouldn't the lady have sacrificed herself for Will Smith? He is the genius who can save the world...he is far more valuable.
Its an hollywood movie shei and if nollywood's excuse is lack of proper finance and proffesional hands, then i should be able to critically analyze a supposed A-list hollywood movie. The movie would have been better off without all these unexplainable errors and the ending sucked big time. I like will smith in this movie, he was solid, believable and entertaining.
